High Street , Uxbridge , Middlesex .. Here we have 2 photos of this Store from 1959 ... 1st Image shows the High Street Entrance and the 2nd image shows the Bakers Road Entrance (locally known as the Bus Station)... Whilst probably not Geographically my Local Store it was the Woolworths Store I spent most of my time in ... The Tea Bar / Cafe was through the back entrance down the Stairs and to the left ... Apparently under the Store there are several old wells and special bases had to be put around the bases of the Columns in order to distribute the weight evenly to prevent collapse .... I do hope Poundland (the current occupiers of the building) are aware of this fact. The first shows High Street Slough in the early part of the twentieth century at Blanchetts Music Store at 99 High Street Slough and the second Lidstone & Co at 150/154 High Street. On the 22nd September 1920 when Clarence Suter had started the Slough business with his father George William, he discovered Lidstone's restaurant further down the High Street and started to go there for his evening meal. On the 5th September 1956 Tom Suter married Doreen Lidstone.
